Shipping Policy, terms + conditions

Shipping perishable items requires care and attention. We will do everything we can to ensure that your gift basket arrives in excellent condition, as it was when it left central bottle. We wrap cheese selections in protective cheese paper, and then package them with ice packs to insure that your items arrive at their best. For gift baskets with perishable items, we require a shipping method of two or fewer days.

For local deliveries, Monday through Friday, we rely on Metro Pedal Power. We require the recipient's current phone number should any delivery questions arise. Our local delivery area covers selected neighborhoods in Cambridge, Somerville and Boston. Other towns within Massachusetts will be shipped via FedEx.  

Central Bottle ships Tuesday through Thursday via FedEx using either overnight or two-day ground service, depending on the outside temperature. To provide overnight shipping on a Thursday for Friday delivery, orders must be received by 2:00 pm on Thursday. If you’ve placed your order after 2:00 on Thursday with any service other than overnight, your order will be shipped on the following Tuesday. Although unusual, it is possible that inclement weather and factors beyond our control, may impact delivery scheduling. 

Complications arising from taxes, international tariffs and regulations prevent us from shipping outside of the United States.

If the gift basket includes alcohol, the person receiving the order must be at least 21 years of age. FedEx requires an adult signature and legal identification to receive the delivery. With this in mind, we reserve the right to refuse orders for any reason without explanation. FedEx is our preferred shipper and is the only shipping service fully licensed to ship alcohol within Massachusetts. DUE TO MASSACHUSETTS STATE LAW, WE ARE UNABLE TO SHIP ALCOHOL OUT OF MASSACHUSETTS. When selecting a gift basket, please be aware that our baskets have two prices, with and without alcohol.

Each time we ship our gift baskets, we aim to have all products arrive in nothing but the best condition. If, for some reason you are not satisfied with your shipment, please contact us upon opening the package, so that we may address the problem. If the products of concern are perishable, like artisan cheeses and cured meats, you must contact us within 24 hours of receiving the gift basket so that we can confer with each other and begin the necessary replacement process. If your product is damaged upon receipt, we will need to request details regarding the type of damage and a digital photograph of the damaged item(s) for our records, so that we are better able to communicate issues with FedEx.

We reserve the right to select the cheeses that taste the best at the time you place your gift basket order. This is the time that we ask you to place your trust in our cheesemonger and allow us to focus on selecting the best and perfectly ripe cheeses on that day.

If you are unfamiliar with buying artisan cheeses there are some cheese bits that you should know and trust us on:  Mold Is a good thing! Please be aware that a few of the cheeses we may send you may have a healthy variety of molds growing on the rind. If you happen to think that the rind is unacceptable, trim it off or simply don’t eat it— enjoy the pure flavors of the inner paste of the cheese.

If you’ve ordered a gift basket that includes a hand cut cheese selection, there will often be slight variation in the cut size. For example, a half-pound of cheese might be 7.5 or 8.2 ounces. We will do our best to adhere as closely to the weight described in the gift basket details.

As many of our products are made by hand in small batches, it is conceivable that we could be out of stock from time to time. Unfortunately, this is beyond our control. If you order a product and we later find out that it is out of stock, we will substitute an item that most closely resembles your original order.

For online purchases, we accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash, check or money orders and we cannot ship C.O.D. 

If the purchaser lives within the state of Massachusetts, we will charge MA sales tax of 6.25% on any taxable items in the gift basket. If the purchaser lives outside of Massachusetts, there will be no sales tax charged.

It is our best intention to get your gift basket to arrive to you as quickly as possible and in an ideal condition, BUT we cannot take any responsibility for the following:

If the package is delayed due to inclement weather.
If the order submitted has an incorrect address on the order form.
If a package is not deliverable because a signature confirmation is requested by the driver, but the recipient is not available.
If an intended recipient is not at home when the package is delivered.
If a package containing perishable items is delivered on time but is not opened upon receipt.
We will not ship to PO Boxes.
